Bird Language Leaders Workshop

July 21, 2016 @ 5:00 pm - July 24, 2016 @ 4:00 pm EDT

Birds are the eyes and ears of the natural world; they know when ‘movement’ is coming—even at a great distance.  Their senses have been honed through the ages to help them communicate with each other, acting as an early warning detection system to avoid danger.  This awareness of ‘baseline’ is part of what keeps birds safe and allows them to pass on these lessons to the next generation. These tools of awareness are not only used by the birds, but also by the animals as a way to stay tuned into what is around them at all times.  By learning to observe and listen deeply to the birds around us, we too can begin to experience this increased awareness and participate in nature in a new and dynamic way.

Come and join us for an extremely rich experience, regardless of your experience level, exploring the skills of Bird Language and reconnecting with an ancient part of yourself.  We will share with you the tried and tested tools that have been handed down to us and the routines that help us to grow our senses vibrant.  By immersing ourselves in a village of experienced mentors and the many layers of participants (novice to expert), learning and training alongside one another, we will grow and expand our awareness together in a powerful way.

What you will learn at the workshop:

  • The Five Voices of the Birds
  • Interpreting Shapes of Alarm
  • Mapping Bird Language
  • Sensory Awareness, Natural Movement & Invisibility routines
  • Storytelling and Dynamic Sensory Memory Skills
  • Baseline Symphony and Concentric Rings
  • Ways to integrate the skills after the workshop
  • and so much more!

Workshop Format:

You will be provided with a rich learning habitat with experts sharing the deep lessons from the wisdom of the birds and subtle nuances to be aware of when out in the field. Then we will go out and sit with the birds, come in to debrief and map the experience in small groups, and then come together as a large group and debrief with everyone, pulling apart a story that unfolded across the landscape itself.  We will spend time going deeper into the lessons with some fun and exciting ways to tease out the story of the day, be creative in sharing our stories and give everyone a chance to speak to their growth and new insights.  This is a really fun and deep way to learn together, that will inspire you to get out to your sit spot for years to come.

We welcome adults, birders (new & veteran), trackers, hunters, ecologists, outdoor educators, & nature enthusiasts.  No experience necessary.
